Computerized society and stress: four ways to avoid it

On certain occasions, we find it surprising the parallelism that exists between reality and fiction that have fed literary works such as "A happy world", "1984" or "Blade Runner", among other options. With dystopias involved and a solemn tone, science fiction has been surpassed by reality and, today, not a day goes by without our reliance on machines and technology to survive. The latest addition to this world appears with the globalization of information thanks to the internet and, although its positive points are unquestionable, where will the over the information of a computerized society lead us?

"Run to stay in your site"
This famous phrase very much to the liking of the Queen of Hearts of the Lewis Carroll imagery is neither more nor less one of the axioms on which the computerized society is based on which we have lived. Far are the times in which life developed in a calm and even isolated from the world. With a past century plagued by technological advances, the frenetic pace has been making a dent in a society that is currently between a rock and a hard place when trying to relax when the same reality prevents us from stopping to learn, to inform ourselves, to follow and follow walking without being able to stop because, at the slightest carelessness, we can remain just as obsolete as the machines we manufacture.

The greatest avant-garde act that can exist today is to “stop smelling the flowers”. In a world that is governed by immediacy, replacement (we are all replaceable in the present and overpopulated western society) and control. Therefore, when it comes to the internet, mobile phones and game consoles, the best advice that can be given is to enjoy alternating with the classic pleasures linked to reality “face to face”. A new year's purpose for 2013 will help the aftermath of such a devastating tendency to gather information, back up behind a computer and forget to feel appear.

Four ways to avoid the stress of the computerized society
Disconnect whenever you can: This is not what we mean by not putting yourself in front of the computer only. We mean that you leave aside the mobile phone, the Tablet and all the electronic devices that make you lose the thread of what happens around. It is a very interesting practice to define a day "without machines" in which you invest time in reading, writing, walking, going to the movies, going out with friends or doing outdoor sports. The possibilities are numerous and this will make you never develop dependence.
Force yourself to talk to people every day: The possibility of doing practically everything from home not only attracts problems for our physical maintenance, but our head also suffers. Spending hours and hours receiving new information generates a residual loss of it that causes the memory to slow down because, on the one hand, we can get everything we are looking for at the moment (without using memory) and, on the other, we have a huge amount of information that, in many cases, can cause anxiety by not being able to digest it.

More library and less Wikipedia: Obviously there are certain works that require this tool so useful that it holds the first place in terms of encyclopedic entries. However, do not fool yourself, you search Wikipedia for convenience and sometimes you do not realize that this information has been written by people like you. Force yourself to go to the library! Investigate and walk through the shelves! Your brain will thank you.
Nevermore than an hour straight in front of the computer / mobile phone: Applicable to workers, first and foremost. Staying for a long time in front of the computer can develop anxiety. Relax for 5 to 10 minutes doing meditation, reading a few pages of a book or simply stretching your legs. For non-workers, the greatest risk is with the mobile phone since the level of addiction that is developing is enormous and is not taken into account as the one that appears from the computer.
In short, it is not necessary to become a slave of the machines to enjoy them. Live life, live technology and find time for what really matters; you.
